To pay tribute to this and show solidarity with families who have campaigned for over four decades, fans shone a light at Dalymount while Christy Moore’s “They Never Came Home” rang around the ground.

Bohemians shared photos of the tribute on social media which brought praise and love from more fans.

One wrote: “A beautiful touch in memory of the 48 souls who never came home. An eternal light for all the families, in our hearts forever.”

Another commented: “Beautiful tribute to the 48.”

A third added: “Bohemians, as a club and a fanbase, always showing class.”

It was a good night for Bohs on the pitch as they earned a 1-0 victory to bring them up to second in the table.

James Akintunde scored the only goal of the game in the 15th minute with centre-half Jevon Mills taken off at half-time even though defensive partner Bouba Keita had risked a second yellow card just before the break.

Boss Alan Reynolds said: “It was just something I felt I needed to do. Standards are important to me, and something was bothering me over the last few days.

“I demand more from fellas and if a young player, or any player, comes in and takes his foot off it, starts smelling himself and think he’s done well, that won’t wash with me.”

In came Cian Byrne as Bohs recorded a third clean sheet in five games, during which time they have conceded just twice, once from open play.

And Rennie is pleased with how they have tightened up at the back but is looking for more going forward.

He said: “You’re trying to instil belief in them, that they never say die and if anyone is going to get anything off us, they have to really earn it.

“Any new manager that comes in will try to start defensively and get that right first.

“I want to change the mentality into winners. Now in saying that I want us to be better, so I suppose you get that side of it right first and you’re then saying ‘right, come on we need to entertain the fans a bit more’

“In fairness to the fans they did their band we did ours by winning but that’s it.

“We are obviously talking about how to attack and we’re taking pride in that. But listen, the big one is, we’re now four wins out of five so can’t ask for too much more.”
