Since retirement, McCoy has worked stints as an ITV pundit and will be looking forward to another thrilling week of Cheltenham ahead.

The Antrim native will be expecting a large showing from Irish trainers, with Willie Mullins especially set for another dominant display.

Here, SunSport takes a look at the life and career of one of racing’s best:

How successful was AP McCoy?

McCoy was Champion Jockey for a record 20 consecutive seasons – every year that he was a professional jockey.

During his iconic career, he most notably won two Cheltenham Gold Cups and the 2010 Grand National.

He recorded his first winner in 1992 at age 17 and 21 years later in November 2013, McCoy ran his 4,000th winner.

McCoy was knighted in 2016 for services to horse racing, the year after he announced his retirement.

The 49-year-old became the first jockey to be named BBC Sports Personality of the Year when he secured the award back in 2010.

In December 2013, McCoy was named RTE Sports Person of the Year.

Who is AP McCoy’s wife?

McCoy is married to his wife Chanelle, who is also hugely successful.

Chanelle has led a Galway-based pharmaceutical company to an annual turnover of more than €100m.

Chanelle Medical was originally set up as an animal drugs company but it also produces drugs for humans now.

The firm earned the Pharma Project of the Year award, in 2016, for its development of a drug treating musculoskeletal disorders such as arthritis in horses.

She joined the company in 2001 after her vet father set it up back in the 1980s.

Chanelle also started a fashion boutique – Mojo & McCoy – along with a number of her friends.

Chanelle and AP have had two children together – daughter Eve and son Archie.

The couple met at Punchestown Racecourse in 1996 and went on to marry a decade later.

What is AP McCoy’s net worth?

According to The Richest, McCoy has a net worth of $30million.

In 2009-10 the legendary jockey raked in a huge $4,468,000 in prize money from race wins.

2010 was the year he won the Grand National, where he rode Don’t Push It to victory.

The triumph at Aintree was worth a massive £521,052 in prize money, as Don’t Push It won by five lengths.

This was his best year in terms of the amount of prize money McCoy took home.
